Privacy Policy
Last updated: 18 June 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how FinTribe collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal and financial information when you use our website, mobile apps, and related services. We are committed to handling your data lawfully, transparently, and in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and other applicable data-protection laws.
1. Who we are
FinTribe is a women-focused financial platform that offers structured savings (contributions), fixed-income investing, wallet and virtual-account services, and community (tribe) features. In this policy, 'FinTribe', 'we', 'us', and 'our' refer to the FinTribe entity operating the platform; 'you' and 'your' refer to the person using our services.
For the purposes of applicable data-protection law, FinTribe acts as the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. If you have questions, you can reach our privacy team using the contact details at the end of this policy.
2. Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account and identity information — your name, email address, phone number, date of birth, gender, country and state of residence, profile photo, and chosen username (user tag).
- Verification (KYC) information — your Bank Verification Number (BVN) and other identity details required to verify you and to create your dedicated funding account, as required by our licensed banking and payment partners and applicable regulation.
- Financial and transaction information — your wallet balances, contributions, fixed-income subscriptions, withdrawals, linked bank account details, virtual-account details, and the history of payments into and out of your account.
- Usage and device information — log data, device identifiers, IP address, app version, and how you interact with our features, collected to keep the service secure and to improve it.
- Communications — messages you send within tribe chats, support requests, and feedback you provide to us.
- Referral information — the user tag you share and the sign-ups attributed to you through our referral programme.
Some information is required to provide the service (for example, KYC details needed to open a funding account). If you choose not to provide it, we may be unable to offer some or all of our services.
3. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Create and administer your account and verify your identity.
- Provide our services — process contributions, fixed-income subscriptions, deposits, and withdrawals, and operate your wallet and virtual account.
- Communicate with you about your account, transactions, security, and service updates.
- Operate community features such as tribes, leaderboards, and referrals.
- Detect, prevent, and investigate fraud, money laundering, and other prohibited activity, and to meet our legal and regulatory obligations.
- Maintain, secure, troubleshoot, and improve our platform, including analytics on how features are used.
4. Legal bases for processing
Depending on the activity, we rely on one or more of the following legal bases: performance of our contract with you (to deliver the services you sign up for); compliance with a legal or regulatory obligation (for example, KYC and anti-money-laundering rules); our legitimate interests (such as securing the platform and preventing fraud); and your consent, where we ask for it (for example, certain marketing communications). Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time.
6. How we protect your information
We apply technical and organisational measures designed to protect your information, including encryption of sensitive personal data at rest, encryption in transit, access controls, and monitoring. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so while we work hard to protect your data we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please keep your login credentials, transaction PIN, and one-time passwords confidential, and tell us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access.
7. How long we keep your information
We keep your information for as long as your account is active and for as long afterwards as needed to provide the service, comply with our legal, tax, accounting, and regulatory obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Retention periods for financial records are typically set by applicable financial-services regulation. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it.
8. Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to request correction of inaccurate data, to request deletion, to object to or restrict certain processing, to withdraw consent, and to request a copy of your data in a portable format. You can exercise many of these rights in the app, or by contacting us using the details below. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, and some requests may be limited by our legal obligations (for example, records we must retain). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
10. Children
FinTribe is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
11. International transfers
Some of our service providers may process your information outside Nigeria. Where we transfer personal data across borders, we take steps to ensure it remains protected in accordance with the NDPA and this policy, including appropriate contractual safeguards.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the 'Last updated' date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Your continued use of FinTribe after an update means you accept the revised policy.
13. Contact us
If you have questions about this policy or how we handle your data, or if you would like to exercise your rights, contact us at support@thefintribe.com. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law.
